A dog was rescued in the East River on Friday morning by NYPD after the pooch jumped into the water near Java Street and swimming off into the distance away from its owner, ABC 7 reports.

The Maltese dog was being walked near the Greenpoint waterfront at Java Street on Friday morning when the dog separated from the owner, ABC 7 explains:

The owner went into the water after her dog but was unable to grab her. The owner then got herself out of the water

At the same time, an NYPD counterterrorism boat was in the area and responded to the scene. They pulled her out of the water, wrapped her in a sweater, and reunited her with her owner.

Another East River dog rescue occurred off of the Greenpoint waterfront earlier this month when a runaway dog jumped into the water at Transmitter Park and swam halfway to Manhattan.
